Worship into the Week- Justified

Worship into the Week

Reformation Sunday-

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

Romans 3:19-28

Propitiation- atonement through Jesus Christ.

We have nothing to offer.

It is a grace offer and a grace state we live in through

God's great mercy.

v.28 "For we hold that one is justified by faith

apart from works of the law."

Simple truth. Simple invitation.

Great Gift.

Worship into the Week-Have Mercy

Worship into the Week-

Mark 10:46-52

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

A blind man in Jericho had heard

the stories of a man named Jesus.

Where Jesus went there

were often large crowds of people

who gathered around him.

They had also heard the stories.

Bartimaeus was a desperate man and

he didn't have anything to lose to cry out-

'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

Those around him tried to quiet him.

But, Jesus heard him and simply said,

"Call him."

Then they rallied round Bartimaeus and told him

to "take heart, get up, he is calling you."

No need to tell him twice.

He jumped up and went to Jesus.

Jesus asked him,

"What do you want me to do for you?"

Jesus said to him,

"Go your way; your faith has made you well."

And IMMEDIATELY his sight was recovered

and he followed Jesus on the way.

Now, I would imagine there was some

 rather interesting conversations

on that journey to Jerusalem-

like the color of trees,

how cool to actually see faces,

and what about this Jesus who gives out

mercy like cups of water.

Lord of All Hopefulness

Sea of Galilee- Mount Arbel- Israel

Lord of All Hopefulness

1. Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,

Whose trust, ever child-like, no cares can destroy,

Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,

Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

2. Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,

Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,

Be there at our labors, and give us, we pray,

Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.

3. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,

Your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,

Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,

Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.

4. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,

Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,

Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,

Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.

Traditional Irish Tune

Lyrics by Jan Struther, 1931

                                                              Lutheran Service Book Hymn 738

Sang this hymn recently at worship

and continue to think about these words.

Lord of all hopefulness.

Lord of all joy.

Lord of all eagerness.

Lord of all kindliness.

Lord of all grace.

Lord of all gentleness.

 Lord of all calm.

Certainly words for centering our days

and blessing our nights.

Here and About- All Aspects- Mount Bethel, PA

All Aspects of the Barn was a very fun stop
for my friend Edith and myself last week.
Our husbands were in meetings
and we set out to explore.

Becky Higgins is the owner we met and she welcomed us
to find our way around the store and hunt for treasures.
The fun candy counter would have been
 a hit with our grandchildren.
The restored barn was done by her husband and son
and it is an incredible, beautifully done project.
Becky's taste for vintage runs the same path as mine-
therefore, many of the items were already at my house.
Blue medicine bottles, door knobs,
 pulleys, wooden bowls, and on.
Her husband creates amazing live edge tables.
 Becky stocks Wise Owl paints
and is a proficient furniture painter and rescuer.
All Aspects saved the day when we asked the locals
 where to go for FUN.

Worship into the Week- Seek

Part of the Worship into the Week Readings-

Psalm 119: 9-16

Epistle- Hebrews 4:1-16

Combining these two reading

makes me think about them a bit differently

when I hold them together.

Seeking God with my whole heart

is staying connected to His Word.

God's Word is ancient,

but also as timely as the latest novel.

His Word meets us in an active way

that only the Holy Spirit can mediate in our lives-

for this time and this place.

Our culture keeps changing-

God and His Word does not.

He still wants the very best for His children

and He delivers these words right into my day,

with the encouragement to Keep Seeking Him.

Worship into the Week- Numbered Days

Worship into the Week
From Everlasting to Everlasting-

Psalm 90:12-17

Let me pay attention to my days,

for they are numbered.

Help me to see the worth and value

and learning opportunities

that give me a heart of wisdom.

Lord, help me to BE HERE NOW.

Let my confidence not be in myself,

 but in you, O Lord.

 You are already working

a heart of wisdom in me.

 Let me be teachable. Amen.

Worship into the Week- Help when Tempted

Worship into the week-
Hebrews 2:3-18
The Founder of Salvation

The Jesus that knows us knows suffering.
He was made like his brothers in every respect.
He was tempted like we are- but did not sin.
He meets us in our low points.
We can tell our friends that our Jesus
 is worthy of praise.
"For because he himself has suffered when tempted,
he is able to help those who are being tempted."
There is something very comforting
about knowing this is my Jesus.

Bible Marginalia- Devoted

Bible Marginalia
Enduring Word Bible
Acts 2:42-27

I always love to see when time in God's Word
crosses over teaching sessions. I was looking
at this section last year 5-14-2020
when doing some training with Dionne Lovstad-Jones
 from Lutheran Hour Ministries.
She helped us to frame our faith world
with encouragement to be "eager conversationalists"
 about our faith in Jesus.
Last week was our final immersion in the D2MC
  (Discipleship to Missional Community)
training with PLI-(Pastoral Leadership Institute.)
They use the triangle of Up, In and Out
to frame spiritual formation.
Our relationship with our Father- UP,
our own Spiritual formation with our family- IN,
and our relationships with Others- OUT.
In the setting of the look at the
apostles living out their faith that becomes-
 Passionate Spirituality-UP,
Radical Community-IN
and Missional Zeal-OUT.
The main difference between the Biblical apostles
and us in this modern age?
The apostles had the expectation of the miraculous.
I have thought about that the past few days.
I am praying about leaning in to
expect miracles.

Scripture Doodles- September 2021

Scripture Doodles-
A phrase from daily devotions.
A Take-away in a square that makes
a picture of some things to remember.
To review. To see the connections.

Four colored pencils and a Sharpie no-bleed pen
This month?
The Holy Spirit is with me as I expand my horizons.
I keep coming back to:
the extension of God's Kingdom ALWAYS
involves resistance.
