Worship into the Week- Alive to God

Worship into the Week- Romans 6:12-23
Dead to Sin, Alive to God
Slaves to Righteousness

There is a wholeness for life
that God wants for everyone.
An abundant richness that comes
when we live a life to God.
We are pointed in the right direction- to God-
and sin no longer holds ultimate power over us.
We live not under law but under grace.
We have been set from sin
and have become slaves of God.
That terminology may not seem right
to us in these modern days- slaves.
But, it is about who owns us-
we belong to God.
This relationship brings us the
fruit of sanctification and its end, eternal life.
"For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is eternal life
 in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Praise to God for His amazing plan
 for me and everyone else.

Hillwood Estate and Gardens

Top right and around-Entry Hall, Library,
Dining Room, and Breakfast Room.

Catching up on a May trip to

The Hillwood Estate and Gardens in Washington, DC.

It was the home of Marjorie Post- heir

to the Postum Cereal Company which became General Foods.

Marjorie Post (1887-1973) was among the

wealthiest women of her time.

She was an astute business woman

and also was very focused on collecting French and Russian art.

The icons and chalices represent the many objects that Post

purchased at sales and commission shops in the 1930's

in the Soviet Union. She spent 18 months there (1937-1938)

with her husband who was Ambassador Joseph Davies.

During this time the Soviet government was yet

selling imperial treasures to finance the plan for industrialization.

Her collection at Hillwood is the most extensive collection

of Russian imperial art outside of Russia.

The bedroom suite of Marjorie Post.
Post purchased Hillwood as her spring and fall Residence.
She spent winters in Palm Beach, Florida
at Mar-A-Lago- (the current owner is Donald Trump).
Summers she spent in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
Her lifestyle was lavish and she was also very generous
with her charitable contributions.A Mother's Day visit was delightful with the flowers

in bloom on a blue sky day.The grounds are stunning and reflect the graciousness

of Marjorie Post who bequeathed the 25 acre estate

to future generations with an endowment for its care.

This gorgeous bouquet of peonies
created guests at the welcome center.

Marjorie Post's collection is truly a fine gift
to the world and we will back with a picnic lunch
 to enjoy the grounds.

Worship into the Week- Romans 5:6-15
Peace With God Through Faith
Death in Adam, Life in Christ

Reconciled.
...but God shows his love for us in that
while we were still sinners Christ died for us."
We were claimed before we were made right.
Nothing in us is worthy of the gift.
It is all grace.
We are saved by the death and
Resurrection of our Lord.
For the free gift is now given to all believers.

Papa Chuck had some very special Oreo cookies

 made  featuring his "lovey- EE".

And we sing and bless Jonah

for this very special birthday number 4!

Multnomah Falls, Oregon

A beautiful June day ushered
in our recent visit to Multnomah Falls.
John had been there before
and this was my first time in Oregon.
Multnomah Falls is the most visited natural recreation site
in the Pacific Northwest. This site has over 2 million visitors
each year and there are now
timed entries to deal with the crowds.

The view at a bit of distance from the falls-

coming in from the parking lot.

The falls are fed by underground springs

from Larch Mountain and the

flow is usually greater in the winter and spring seasons.

The sound is mesmerizing.

This photo shows the log bridge
that was built over the lower falls.
The cement bridge that is in place now
was built in 1914 for Simon Benson
who owned the land.
The early visitors came by train
and steamship to see the falls.

An easy hike a bit higher up gives
a great view of the Columbia River.
The falls are located about
30 min outside of Portland.
The Falls roar from a height of 611 feet.

The beautiful colors of green were such
a blessing to see at this amazing natural site.
Worth the trip to see Multnomah Falls.

Worship into the Week-The Promise Through Faith

Worship into the Week- Romans 4:13-25
The Promise Realized Through Faith
In this section of Scripture we have Paul
speaking about Abraham
and the justification by faith, not works.
He was considered justified even before his circumcision.
(Gen. 15:6, and Gen 17:10-27)
Abraham's "counted to him as righteousness"
was not for him alone.
These words reach through the years to us also.
For us that believe that Jesus was Lord and
rose from the dead,
we have this same justification.
The promise is ours even today.

Worship into the Week- Holy Trinity

Worship into the Week- Acts 2:14a, 22-36
Acts 2- Peter's Sermon at Pentecost
is one of the few places of reference to the Trinity.
The bewildered pilgrims in Jerusalem needed help
to understand that they were witnessing God (the Father)
in the fulfillment of his promise to pour out
the Spirit on all believers.
This miraculous event wasn't a great power play
but the salvation plan in the presence and name of Jesus.
Peter's message is supported with the chain of events
of the death of Jesus, his burial and then raised again
to life as stated in the Scriptures.
This is the whole story promise
and revealed right in Jerusalem.
The story is just as true today in our promise
of life revealed in this blessed Trinity.
A look at Psalm 8 of the
Lectionary reading for this week.
Oh Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is your name in all the earth.!

Cannon Beach, Oregon

A recent visit to the Oregon Coast
included some Time at Cannon Beach
and the iconic Haystack shoreline.

A brilliant sunny day welcomed rippling waves
and warm sand on our feet.

Cannon Beach is a small coastal city
in northwest Oregon.
It is known for its long, sandy shore. Haystack Rock
is a seasonal haven for tufted puffins.
Nearby sites include Arcadia Beach with tide pools,
Hug Point with sea caves, and Ecola State Park
has coves and a lighthouse.
We were blessed to hang our with some friends
 of the last eleven years
who also served as District Presidents.
There were stunning new flowers
to find names for on our trip.
The Blue is Ceanothus- Blueblossom.
The Pink is Cistus- Rockrose.

Crossed paths have left us with shared journeys
and a great love for each other.
(missing Pat the photographer)
Here she is.....

And a goodbye to this beautiful,

beautiful coastline.
To my friend, David-
may there be many, many
more times of laughter.

Vintage Grace Gardens- Late May and Early June

They don't last very long-
but I love Red Hot Poker.
 Loves full sun.

The cooler spring into summer
has the clematis happy with the temperatures.

Striking blooms-Acanthus.
Need to divide this perennial.
Top right and around-
 veronica, yucca, satiable and hydrangea.
Top right and around- Lamb's ear, Centaurea,
A blooming striped grass, and hydrangea.
Top right and around- blooming snow on the mountain,
coreopsis, white yarrow, and Stella D' Oro daylillies.
Always fun to see what is blooming
from week to week in my garden.

King's North Winery- Oregon

A very special afternoon with friends for
a private tasting at King's North Winery
 in Newberg, Oregon.

This new winery is located in Oregon.
This winery is the "story of two brothers
(from Wisconsin), their love of wine,
and a dream of creating a label that puts the grape first."
The attention to detail is a fine point for this winery.
We were blessed to smell the newly budded grapes.
The vineyard was planted Spring 2018.
It is organic, sustainable and family farmed.

Friends from the Council of President's- LCMS.
These friendships are the blessing
 from this time of service.

Time to purchase a couple bottles
to bring home from our visit.
Even the hallway to the bathroom
 was adorned with beautiful flowers.

Thank you to Cindy and Paul for arranging
such a special relaxing time together.
