Jeremiah 11: 18-20
The Broken Covenant
Jeremiah was probably pretty tired of complaining
and lamenting to God about the people of Israel.
He was called top proclaim the word of the LORD to Judah
and as a whole nation they were wholeheartedly resistant to the
message of judgment.
Who wants to hear that kind of news day after day?
The people of Jerusalem continued to go out and seek
the power and connections to other gods.
That would not save them in their troubles.
The Covenant was broken by their worship of the pagan
and false gods that were the deities
of the neighboring cities and nations.
Jeremiah's trust in the LORD made him a laughing stock
in the midst of hostile enemies.
In fact, his life was worthless as they sought to kill him.
He was a "lamb being led to the slaughter."
But, the righteous LORD will win out as he knows
"the heart and mind" of people.
Jeremiah will be the winner in the end because the LORD
is master over both challenging and blessed times.
We are called to stand faithful in all times.
