Worship into the Week- Truth and Freedom

Worship into the Week-
The Truth will Set You Free
Reformation Worship

John 8:31-38

Jesus is speaking to the Jews who had believed him.

1) Abide in my word

2) You will be my disciples

3) You will know the truth

4) The Truth will set you FREE.

But, they hold that they are offspring of Abraham.

5) Everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.

6) If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.

7) My word finds no place in you.

8) I speak of what I have seen with my Father.

Jesus was trying to help them to see

that when we obey God's Word

 we grow in spiritual knowledge.

As we grow in spiritual knowledge,

we grow in freedom from sin.

These unbelieving Jews claimed

to never have been in bondage-

seemingly forgetting the rule of Rome

they were under and the captivity

 under Assyrian and Babylon.

The worst kind of bondage is when

we don't even see it and remain as a slave.

 Jesus explains the difference between

spiritual children and fleshly descendants.

He was trying to help them see the spiritual experience

of salvation that would save them- believing in HIM.

It was their pride that got in the way.

How might my own pride cause me

to not see where I live enslaved to sin?

Time to pray about that....

Worship into the Week- Render All

Worship into the Week-
Matthew 22:15-22
Paying Taxes to Caesar

The Pharisees were plotting
to entangle Jesus in his words.
Let's get this guy to mess up big time.
They sneak up with-
"we know you are
true and teach the way of God truthfully,
and you do not are about anyone's opinion,
for you are not swayed by appearances."
So they came up with the perfect "trick" question.

"Tell us, then what you think.
Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar , or not?"
Jesus knew what they were up to in their query.
and chided them- you hypocrites.
He asked for a coin and they brought him a denarius
with the likeness and inscription of Caesar.
Solution?
"...render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's
and to God the things that are God's."
They marveled. They left.
They had been outfoxed - big time.
Everything belongs to God.
He wants all.
Honor Caesar and give him what he is due.
Back to the drawing board.
It is going to be challenging to
find something that will mess Jesus up.
They just didn't understand who He was.

Worship in to the Week- Lead Me

Worship into the Week-
Psalm 23
Spending some time in this Psalm this week.
Still waters.
He restores my soul.
ON days when I feel depleted-
I can reflect back on this phrase.
He restores my soul.
He restores my soul.
He restores my soul.
Kind of like a whispered prayer.
Over and over again.

Think this image was from a
bulletin at a Seminary call service.
In the month when we remember
 our undersheperds- the pastors,
a good thing to connect to Psalm 23.

Lord, when I fail to find the path-
Lead Me.
When I stray and need redirection-
Lead Me.
When I am stuck and just at a stand still-
Lead Me.
     Amen.

Worship into the Week- Cornerstone

Worship into the Week-
The Parable of the Tenants
Matthew 21:33-46
A section of Scripture
that shares yet another parable.
Parable-a simple story used to illustrate
 a moral or spiritual lesson,
as told by Jesus in the Gospels.
So many layers to this Scripture.
The killing of the heir.
The rejected cornerstone.
The Kingdom and producing fruit.

Lord, let me see the ways

that I can produce fruit in your Kingdom.

Keep my eyes open for opportunities to serve you.

May I love and also have

a very deep respect for your one and only Son.

Arrange my life for spiritual transformation that

rests on Jesus- the Cornerstone. Amen.
