Devotional takeaways for a month at a time.

4 colored pencils and a non-bleeding Sharpie.

What is the thread to SEE for the month?

Gathering those from my prayer list

 to lift up here also.

This month is the journey of seeing the mercy
of God's great gift of grace.

Worship into the Week- Faith and Example

Worship into the Week-
 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
The Thessalonians' Faith and Example

I read this book in the New Testament
differently after my visits to the city of Thessaloniki.
When looking at this section of Scripture,
 I am picturing the coastline
and seeing the blue waters in my mind.
Somehow that makes the people that
Paul is writing about become "real people."
They worked in faith and labored
 in love with steadfast hope.
They were loved by God and chosen by Him.
The Gospel came to them not only in word
but also in power and in the Holy Spirit
and with full conviction.
They were good imitators and moved
with the joy of the Holy Spirit,
so that they were great examples to all
 in Macedonia and Achaia.
Their stories rung out long before social media.
They turned from idols to worship
of the living and true God.
That's an example and a reminder
for us living today in 2023.

Vintage Grace Gardens- Late October

This year I gathered a few mums for Fall

and added some pansies and

ornamental peppers to the pot in front.

Some new colors for this change of seasons.

The dogwood turns red and is quite dramatic

when played against the blade autumn sky.

The grasses are fully opened

and wave in the breeze.

Sedum is in bloom and adds a delicate pop

of color here and there in the garden.

Filtered light shifts over the dining table.

Gathered gourds sit gently in a favorite leaf bowl

made by art teacher daughter Laura

as a gift for us on her wedding day.

So many blessings,

so much to give thanks for each day.

God is good.

Worship into the Week- Chosen

Worship into the Week- Matthew 22:1-14
The Parable of the Wedding Feast

The story points back to a theme of "being worthy."
There is also an urgency here about
the sharing of the invitation and the need to respond.
Jesus is always trying to help his disciples
understand a bit more about the Kingdom of Heaven.
Parables help with making that a bit more clear.
Jesus is still speaking in the temple here
and enters into debate successively with the Pharisees,
who are aligned with the Herodians,
the Sadduccees and a lawyer.
He dominates and silences them all.
The Jews are outraged that Jesus continues
to open the door of those- CHOSEN-
to more than the Jews.
This section finishes with this reminder passage,
"For many are called, but few are chosen."
As Jesus speaks to the Jewish authorities, he
wanted them to recognize that He was their Messiah
and not miss out
on the blessings of the Kingdom.
We all must not miss out on the invitation.

Enduring Word Bible - The Shema

                  Enduring Word Bible- The Shema

    Deuteronomy 6:4-9

One of the Pillars of Visual Faith® Ministry

 is this section of Scripture.

It also has the name of The Shema.

The Shema reminds us to love God.

It is the central affirmation of Judaism

and the prayer expresses belief in the singularity of God.

Christians also highly value the call to walk by the way

and to remember what God has done in our lives.

We are called to teach the ways of God to our children

from the time we get up till we go to bed at night.

In all ways along the way, we are to REMEMBER.

This is so important for us to pay attention,

because we all have spiritual amnesia.

We forget the things God has done and all the ways

He moves in our day to day lives.

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart

and with all your soul and with all your might."

We need to put this right on our walls

to help us REMEMBER.

Worship into the Week-Press On

Worship into the Week-  Press On
Philippians 3:4b-14
Straining Toward the Goal

So many tangles and distractions
 here on this earthly journey.
So much "stuff" gets in the way
and causes me to lose my way.
When there is clarity I see that it
is so important to Know HIM
and the power of his resurrection.
The Goal.
The Prize.
The Upward Call.
That's a Lasting Difference
because the Lord is my Strength.

Adventures with Jonah

We started this year to do an Adventure day
with each of the grandboys that live nearby.
(Wish we could do that for all the others.)
Somehow Jonah's summer birthday
ended up being a fall adventure.
We start at a a local nursery that has a wonderful
pumpkin patch and things just for little guys.
To ride the pony didn't cost any money -
you just pushed the button.
We met a funny guy driving the tractor.
We looked at ALL the gourds
before he found his perfect one to take home.
Then we headed to Burke Lake Park
and looked at the bark on trees.

We took photos on the very same rocks and
climbing spots that Jonah's momma visited
when she was young.
We found a "fort" that some other adventurers
had started and we added LOTS of sticks to it.
We finished climbing
and then decided we were hungry,
We tried out a new to us restaurant.
We were all surprised at the HUGE size
of the hamburger on the kid's menu.

We had collected some "treasures"
during the day and made an art piece when we got back.
Jonah painted a canvas and added the leaves and acorns.
He picked out his favorite dangles
and you can always add stickers.

All that fun and the best part?
Riding in "Bluey"- Papa and Gigi's car.
We give thanks for this special time with Jo-Jo.

Worship into the Week-Shine as Lights

Worship into the Week-
Philippians 2:1-4 (5-13) 14-18
There are times when Scripture sounds like
it was written yesterday.
v.14 " Do all things without grumbling or disputing,
that you may be blameless and innocent,
children of God without blemish
in the midst
of a crooked and twisted generation,
among whom you shine as lights in the world,
holding fast to the word of life,
so that in the day of Christ I may be proud
that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

Nothing much has changed in 2000 years.
It is still a crooked and twisted generation.
We MUST hold fast to God's Word.
Our hope in Christ
and the light of His goodness
changes the way we live in the world.
A light shines brightest in the darkness.
We know the way of the world shimmers
with the power of evil.
It moves day and night
and calls out to all who will listen.

Lord, let us step in with the power of the Holy
Spirit to shed light beacons in this world
that desperately seeks you.  Amen.

Journey of Faith- The Prayer Board

Family.
An old hymn board.
A Journey of Faith.
Wrapped in the hands of our loving God.
Embracing the good times and
leaning hard in the challenging times.
Silly smiles.
Hugs.
Sweet moments to capture
in one place to center prayers.

Oh, Lord bless your hand on this
family and let them learn of your goodness-
in all things. Amen
