Worship into the Week- Broken Covenant

Jeremiah 11: 18-20
 The Broken Covenant

Jeremiah was probably pretty tired of complaining
and lamenting to God about the people of Israel.
He was called top proclaim the word of the LORD to Judah
and as a whole nation they were wholeheartedly resistant to the
message of judgment.
Who wants to hear that kind of news day after day?
The people of Jerusalem continued to go out and seek
the power and connections to other gods.
That would not save them in their troubles.
The Covenant was broken by their worship of the pagan
and false gods that were the deities
of the neighboring cities and nations.

Jeremiah's trust in the LORD made him a laughing stock
in the midst of hostile enemies.
In fact, his life was worthless as they sought to kill him.
He was a "lamb being led to the slaughter."
But, the righteous LORD will win out as he knows
"the heart and mind" of people.
Jeremiah will be the winner in the end because the LORD
is master over both challenging and blessed times.
We are called to stand faithful in all times.

Worship into the Week- Sustains Me

Worship into the Week- Isaiah 50:4-10
Israel's Sin and the Servant's Obedience

In this passage the servant declares that he has a
trained tongue and a trained ear.
There is an open heart to be taught
and to learn from the Lord.
The Servant's Song (spoken 700 years before Jesus)
are meant to help the weary.
This prophecy is a response to the people complaining
that they had been abandoned by God.
They struggle with weak faith.
v. 10 The Lord offers them a choice to walk out
 of darkness into the light.
They can live in the true Light.
We each have that choice to make each and every day.
May the Lord give me the strength to walk in the Light.

Sermon notes and take aways from worship.
I am sustained by God's Word right into eternity.

Worship into the Week- Be Strong, Fear Not!

Isaiah 35:4-7a
Say to those who have an anxious heart,
"Be strong, fear not!"
What great words of comfort to the
mourning exiles from Judah.
They had lost their land, and their temple and
the ability to govern themselves.
They are living with despair and
have fallen weak and weary.
They are sorrowful in their very bodies.

Just what is a fearful heart?
What is an anxious heart?

Perhaps we move to this posture
when things are not right in our world.
When we don't see ways of improvement or
there are roadblocks, it can feel like an
overwhelming situation.
Problems press in and pile up.
Just when we are in this very low spot-
then the Lord comes close.
He comes to bring water in the wilderness,
and streams in the desert.
He comes to bring new life.
He comes to breathe into us the gift of joy.

Worship into the Week- To Your Children's Children

Worship into the Week

Deuteronomy 4:1–2, 6–9

In this section of Scripture we see that Moses

commands the people to keep God's laws.

Things were going to be different in Canaan

as they made this their new home.

His instructions came with a command that

they were not to add or subtract anything from God's law.

They were a  people that had something

very different than the people around them.

God's law was to be highly valued and cherished.

Moses challenged the people to obedience.

God strongly tied the faith of Israel to real, actual

 historical events.

Myths, legends or philosophies were not the basis

for the beliefs of the Israelites.

The stories were factual accounts of true events.

It was their personal history-

that they had seen with their own eyes.

"Make them known to your children

and your children's children."

What a reminder to us to write down

and retell the stories of God's workings in our own lives.

For the sake of our children and our grandchildren.

The Reno Story- August 2024

Big story this month was seeing
the windows going in the great room.
Moved some dirt around.
Then Hurricane Debby arrived.
The one evening John took 100 gallons
of water out of our new patio while it was
serving as our new "mini pool."
Then it dried up  and and things got finished up.

The two sides of the back yard.
One is on Instagram this summer.
Lots and lots of new windows.
The spaces will be bright.
Then the kitchen renovation started.
Empty spaces getting ready for something new.
We continue to have fun watching the process.

Highly recommend -

Calendar Journaling- August 2024

Calendar Journaling- August 2024

Seeing the goodness in a difficult month.
How do we keep track of the story
of His hand in the plan?
Keep doing what you have been doing.

My muscle memory.
Keep looking for the ways God is bringing
about the plan of the Kingdom.
Even when it is hard.

Especially when it is challenging.
It is the cracks that the Light shines through.
After trauma- one of thew ways we get through
it is to count- a week ago, two weeks ago, etc.
AS I finish each month of devotional takeaways
I look for the gem of God's grace for me.
This month I saw it on the Saturdays.
Dan's accident was Aug 10.
Read the column from the 3rd to the 31st
down on the Saturdays.
 I see Dan's story here and God's
 overwhelming protection and grace.
