Worship into the Week- Trinity Sunday
Genesis1:1-2; 4a
Lots of beginnings here.
Genesis comes from a Greek word that means
"origin", "birth", or "beginning."
We have the creation of the universe, adding humanity,
then sin, the beginning of civilization and the Jewish nation.
It is a giant epic movie to tell this story.
God was before the beginning.
He was before life and structure and form
set things in motion and set apart.
The Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit,
hovered over the waters.
The Spirit was an active presence in the creation.
The creation of matter out of nothingness.
This act of grace was reflected in God's creation as
a reflection of God's character and it was very good.
Jesus was present at creation as the eternal "Word".
He existed before time began and was actively involved
as the agent through whom God created all things.
This story of the beginning with the Triune presence
is a wonderful reading for Trinity Sunday.

What does the Holy Spirit want me to not miss?
My small attempt of capturing the journey of a life
seeking time with Jesus in a very distracting world.
A few beautiful days have been wonderful garden time.
Cool temps and no humidity and yes we will take that!
Planted 2 red, white and blue planters for the 250th.
Time to see what came back and made itthrough an extra long frozen spell here in January.
The David Austen Rose is pretty happy right now also.
and it is easier to get to now that the grass
has filled in and covered the red clay dirt.
with trying to keep upkeep a bit easier.
Some containers over wintered in the house
and some outside survived.
Some containers have perennials planted to fill in.
Red hot poker, acanthus, yarrow and phlox.
Plantings in the slip scoop from the farm, golden huechera,
hostas in a pot, (they do better here with the slugs)
and popcorn drift roses.
Charlie is eight!
There are 3 family birthdays in May for this family.
He is on his way to a great new year!
Numbers 11:24-30
Moses is overwhelmed with the care of the complaining people.
The Lord sets before him a plan for helpers.
Bring seventy men to the Tabernacle.
"I will come down and talk to you there.
I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you,
and I will put the Spirit upon them also.
They will bear the burden of the people along with you,
so you will not have to carry it alone."
So they followed the plan,
even though they had to deal with all
the meat eating God had planned for the complainers.
God shares the Spirit with the new leaders
and they even prophesied.
Moses is still in authority,
but others have been equipped for their new roles.
Two men had not gone out to the Tabernacle,
but the Spirit rested on them also.
Joshua is disturbed by this and reports back to Moses.
Moses reassures him and tells him to not be jealous.
"I wish that all the LORD's people were prophets
and that the Lord will put his Spirit upon them all!"
Moses isn't threatened by the empowered new leaders.
He humbly and gratefully puts aside his ego
and sees the blessing of his new community of helpers.
We see the New Testament Pentecost story
foreshadowed here with the free outpouring on the believers.
We can already see here that the work of God's Kingdom
is both a shared responsibility and leadership.

So the group that left from Dulles had three hours
to walk around and explore downtown city life.
The majestic symbol of Thessaloniki is the White Tower.
The tower houses a museum tracing the history of the city.
The present tower probably replaces an older Byzantine tower
described byt the 12th century Archbishop- Eustathius of
Thessalonica when the city was rampaged in 1185.
The current tower guarded the eastern side of the city sea wall.
The current tower was constructed after the army of
Sultan Murad II defeated Thessaloniki in 1430.
Through the years it has been a famous prison
and the scene of numerous executions.
When Greece regained control over the city in 1912,
it was remodeled and became the iconic symbol
of the city on the waterfront.
Another famous city site is the Arch of Galarius. The triumphal arch was built by the city between
298 and 305 AD to celebrate the Roman Emperor Galerius
and his victory over the Persians. It is a beautiful example of
Byzantine art and architecture. The carvings are amazing to view.
for Galerius, but then he died and was buried in Serbia.
It was later converted into a Christian church and used
in this way for over 1,200 years till the city fell to the Ottomans.
It became a mosque in 1590.
Tried to find the name but it was all Greek to me.

Those are posted in the Word Log.

For my Bible reading I read through the book of Acts

Always so good to see this story in Scripture
as it comes alive on land and sea.
