This year it is right in our Common Book.

 Right along with the rest of the practices 

was this calendar image.

I used the Lenten Word Project for reflection time 

for the 40 days of Lent.

This practice helps me to see the visual of how

 these words fit together for my Lenten walk.

A blessed part of Lent this year for me.

Lenten Pathway Journey 2024

 

I have been doing a calendar journal 

for Lent since 2011.

I am pretty sure I had not planned on 

this being a lasting practice.

Most of my Visual Faith Journey has been a surprise.

 My track record of "keeping up" or "staying with"

  things was not too good in the past.

Until- I found something or a process that worked for ME.

That has made all the difference.

I downloaded the readings and the calendar from 

Visual Faith Ministry.  Here:

I added it right into my Common Book-

 so that it was in the spot that made sense for me. 

Same principle of 4 colored pencils 

and a devotional reading.

Then a word or a phrase take away added to the calendar.

That became the story of Lent 2024.

Totally doable, grace-filled and reliable as a practice.

 Giving thanks for this tool and resource for the journey.

VaLENTine's Day 2024

 

Valentine's Day and Ash Wedesday will only happen

 on the same day three times this century.

2018, 2014, and 2029.

I missed the 3 times last century-

1923, 1934 and 1945.

Before my time.

So on this very special day we come 

with a heart of repentance, 

hearts to rend, and seeking the ways to

make a Lenten walk more attentive 

to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

What could the Lord be calling us to "fast" from?

TV, our phones, shopping,

and a plethora of food choices.

It is not only about what we give up,

but how we use this "giving up" as time to 

center a spiritual connection.

Or perhaps it is about how to "add in something"

 lacking in our prayer life, devotional life, or worship life.

Maybe this Lent season think about a 

prayer calendar for recording devotional take-aways,

sending a prayer card to one person each week of Lent,

or maybe taking your personal Bible to worship.

All great places to start.

You can come up with all sorts of things

 to add in to your walk.

Right?

What is missing from your spiritual journey

 that you need to pay attention to?

Pray about "adding" that in this year.

Lenten Journey 2023

This year I used the Lenten Path calendar 

from Visual Faith® Ministry.

It came with some reflection words for each day.

Ann Gillaspie, the author and creator of this resource, 

 provided a pathway to document the journey 

with a small drawing, doodle, or a few words.

I decided to meditate on the included words.

The hymn- "O Sacred Head Now wounded" 

was the inspiration 

for following the words that remind us

 of the passion of Jesus Christ.

I used my standard 4 colored pencils for coloring

 and decided on a subdued palette of color for this year. 

I chose about 5 patterns of doodles

 to repeat through the path.

On this Easter Day I am thankful 

for the time of reflection, the recorded story

 of the journey, and the legacy 

of the project to review in years ahead.

Jesus in Risen! 

He is Risen indeed!

Alleluia!

Ash Wednesday 2023

 

Gathering supplies for  Lent this year.

 Still deciding my approach and the journey.

It will be interactive, responsive, 

with mixed media.

Visual Faith Ministry has many new things

 for Lent this year.

Spotted this at a Doctor's office today.

The bright yellow hope of Spring still tangled

 in the stark brown and dead looking bush branches.

That is really the story of Lent. 

Living with the barren 

amidst the hope of new life.

This cross is in the caves of St. Jerome

 under the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

He lived here in this place for years 

to translate the Vulgate Bible.

This image is a certain reminder 

of our Lenten journey.

Up to Jerusalem and to the cross -

ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Lent Calendar for 2022

This year the devotion I used had Sunday entries,

 so I went ahead and did those also.

That took me right up to Palm Sunday.  

I am doing some processing with a 

Take Heart Holy Week Lectio Divina Bible Study

 from Visual Faith™ Ministry 

and that is a perfect set of readings for Holy Week,

It is always amazing to me 

how a phrase sticks with the day-

Ordinary People, Remember Me, 

Paradise Restored, and Alert Living.

A simple process of adding words, color 

and the hands-on practice of writing it down 

gives the Holy Spirit something to work with.

Thank you Lord, for that- this Lenten season.

Daughter Jessica Meier is a first grade teacher 

at St Paul's Lutheran School in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She loved the simple graphic black images.

She thought they would be perfect base

 for young students to add their own touch.  

Oldest grandson Griffin, (Jessica's nephew)

 is in her class

  and this is his book.

Griffin loves to tell the story using his book.

What is Man?

That He could be mindful of me-

mere dust.

with a refrain that stays with you...

 Because of this empty grave...

we have a new day.

As Jesus is raised-

 so His faithful disciples

are Raised up.

 we have victory over death.

We rejoice that we have this

 awesome gift of eternal life.

 Always makes me think of a favorite hymn-

Have no Fear Little Flock-

we have been given the Kingdom.

 He is Risen indeed.

There has been an eternal

 shifting the power over death.

 In these days of COVID19 we certainly 

see and hear that Death is All Around Us.

 Because we BELIEVE...

 we are NOT AFRAID.

The refrain goes on and on and on.

Death is all around us,

we are not afraid:

written is the story, 

empty is the grace.
