All in the Name of Love- Valentine's Day

Maybe it is because my birthday
is the day before Valentine's Day.
Or maybe it is just because I LOVE hearts.

A favorite collection is 100 year old Valentine postcards.

But, I love bringing out the nostalgia

 and the vintage for February.

February 1940 Home Arts magazine?  oh, yea.

A glass jar of red and white marbles?  Yup.

3-D Valentines- many from Germany.

A collection of keys?  the older the better.

The key to my heart?  The best.

Grade school Valentine's?
The more the better.

Nostalgia and red.

A valentine tree with vintage red and white handkerchiefs?
And lights on the dark days?

A heart florist's container is now a bit harder to find.
Yes, yes,  I love it all.
For the greatest of these is LOVE.

Valentine Vignettes

A bit of heart day decor around the house this year.
Always fun to bring out some of the
favorites from in the past.

Or try out a new spot for things that
have been around for a long time.

Fresh flowers make everything look wonderful.

Hearts and love and vintage Valentines
 from a hundred years ago.
They certainly tell a story.

A few "spoolies" we have had fun creating.
But, the main story to tell
is how much Jesus loves me.
"We love because He first loved us."

VaLENTine's Day 2024

Valentine's Day and Ash Wedesday will only happen

on the same day three times this century.

2018, 2014, and 2029.

I missed the 3 times last century-

1923, 1934 and 1945.

Before my time.

So on this very special day we come
with a heart of repentance,
hearts to rend, and seeking the ways to
make a Lenten walk more attentive
to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
What could the Lord be calling us to "fast" from?
TV, our phones, shopping,
and a plethora of food choices.
It is not only about what we give up,
but how we use this "giving up" as time to
center a spiritual connection.
Or perhaps it is about how to "add in something"
lacking in our prayer life, devotional life, or worship life.
Maybe this Lent season think about a
prayer calendar for recording devotional take-aways,
sending a prayer card to one person each week of Lent,
or maybe taking your personal Bible to worship.
All great places to start.
You can come up with all sorts of things
to add in to your walk.
Right?
What is missing from your spiritual journey
that you need to pay attention to?
Pray about "adding" that in this year.

A Bit of Heart

Somewhere along the line I fell in love with Valentines.
Maybe it has something to do with
a birthday that falls the day before.
Doesn't matter anymore-
as I have been and still am- all out for hearts,
and all the sentimental trappings.
Vintage postcards, German 3-D cards,
handmade collages, doilies, crochet-edged hankies,
and even my grade school Valentines.
I'll take it all and it brings delight
right up till Spring is unveiled.
Enjoy the trappings of the heart.
A mini quilt made 35 years ago, a button card
and a handprinted wood circle made by a friend.
A mixed media collage project.

Made in Germany- 3 D cards
The tissue paper on these is pretty delicate
and to preserve them, I display them standing flat.

A favorite neutral decor flat canvas
that I made a few years back.
A great vintage book.
A great reminder of why Valentine's day
is such a reminder that Jesus is Love.

Key to my Heart.
Valentines saved from my grade school friends.

A collection of favorite Valentine pieces
 brought together  in collage.
Heart florist vases and a bit of hand crochet lace.

Our Hearts take hold on thee.
Valentine spoolies, old postcards and some
ceramic lace hearts from a daughter's wedding.
Always fun to see the hearts come together.
Hope you have a sentimental journey
 this Valentines's Day!
