Worship into the Week- Pentecost

 Worship into the Week-

Numbers 11:24-30

Moses is overwhelmed with the care of the complaining people.

The Lord sets before him a plan for helpers.

Bring seventy men to the Tabernacle.

"I will come down and talk to you there.

I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you,

and I will put the Spirit upon them also.

They will bear the burden of the people along with you,

so you will not have to carry it alone."

So they followed the plan,

even though they had to deal with all

the meat eating God had planned for the complainers.

God shares the Spirit with the new leaders

and they even prophesied.

Moses is still in authority,

but others have been equipped for their new roles.

Two men had not gone out to the Tabernacle,

but the Spirit rested on them also.

Joshua is disturbed by this and reports back to Moses.

Moses reassures him and tells him to not be jealous.

"I wish that all the LORD's people were prophets

and that the Lord will put his Spirit upon them all!"

Moses isn't threatened by the empowered new leaders.

He humbly and gratefully puts aside his ego

and sees the blessing of his new community of helpers.

We see the New Testament Pentecost story

foreshadowed here with the free outpouring on the believers.

We can already see here that the work of God's Kingdom

is both a shared responsibility and leadership.
