Sedona Love

This is really the true colors of Sedona, Arizona.
The brilliant blue plays up
the red-orange rock formations.

The artsy town sits in the middle of the
vortex of New-Age spirituality.
Sedona is also the home of the visitor favorite-
Chapel of the Cross.

 The piercing eyes of Jesus
seem to follow you wherever you sit.

 This church is on the
National Register of Historic Places.
The Chapel was inspired
and commissioned by a local rancher
and sculptor- Marguerite Brunswig Staude.
She was inspired in 1932 by the
Empire State Building to build such a church.
An early attemptt to build one in Budapest
with Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright
was abandoned with the outbreak of World War II.
That brought her back to her native region.
Richard Hein was the project architect
and the design was by August Strotz.
The Chapel is built on Coconin National Forest land.
The chapel was built in 18 months
at a cost of $300,000 and completed in 1956.
The church is maintained by the Roman Catholic diocese.

It was challenging to get a good photo
of the chapel so including a couple
 here from the internet.
                                                                                                                                         Wikipedia

A beautiful sunny day
and a rest after the walk up the hill.
Giving thanks for seeing a bit more
 of this wonderful world.
Some of the more adventurous
 took off on a "hike."
A less than perfect knee kept me behind-
to make new friends on the benches.
Sedona- you are lovely.
(especially in February)
