Worship into the Week -
Ephesians 4:17-32, 5:1-2
The New Life
Paul speaks here that the truth in in Jesus.
Your old self belongs to your former manner of life.
We are to "be renewed in the spirit of of your minds
and to put on the new self,
created after the likeness of God
in true righteousness and holiness."
It is pretty challenging to think of
ourselves growing in holiness.
That is beyond our analysis of who we are,
how we live, and see ourselves in the world.
We need to set aside corrupt actions and talk.
God is doing a new thing.
The Holy Spirit has sealed our redemption.
Our code to follow is simply:
"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another,
as God is Christ forgave you.
...Be imitators of God, as beloved children.
And walk in love, as Christ loved us
and gave himself up for us,
a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."
Does God expect some things from us
in this exchange of the new for the old?
Cooperation in this great work does moves us
toward this "likeness of God
in true righteousness and holiness."
How thankful that we are not in charge
of this great and might work.
