Worship into the Week-
Genesis 18:17-33
Abraham Intercedes for Sodom
In this reading the Lord reveals to Abraham His plan
to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because the people there
are so wicked. Abraham then begins a powerful
intercessory prayer where he bargains with God
to spare the cities.
He moves God to relent for 50, then 45, then 40,
then 30, then 20, and finally 10.
We see God's willingness and capacity to show mercy.
This passage highlights the themes of divine justice,
the role of Abraham's intercessory prayer
and also God's willingness to be approached in prayer.
Abraham is allowed to see this perspective of God
because he has been chosen to
be allowed to command his children
and his household after him
to keep the way of the Lord.
