A Vintage 4th!

Things around our place lean vintage
no matter the time of year or celebration.
that could be gatherings like:
a grain sifter, old bed springs, milk carrier,
screen door, and Coca-Cola crate.
 Or a tool carrier, dominos,
and wooden carpenter's rulers,
and a screen door with old buttons.
Miss Liberty proudly waves above.
 Bin sorters redone
for some faux succulents.

 Another Coca-Cola crate
 holds a galvanized pail
filled with all sorts of red, white and blue.
I LOVE the USA rests on a old shutter
by collected garden tools and a hay rake.

OLD Glory hangs still
on the front porch.
 A sap bucket, wood pulley
and crate gather around mini flags
and our nations's colors.
 Old friends gather...

 Can't get a good photo -
but Miss Bunny has been the herald
for our family's 4th celebrations for over 30 years.
These little girls of the 4th
are 100 year old post cards.
 The blue Chaste tree always
blooms for the 4th of July.
This "bush" is a start from the gardens
at Mount Vernon over 25 years ago.
A hot day -
104 degree with heat index
but that makes things grow like the tropics.
These begonias in the vintage carrier
 can't get much more celebratory.
It is the 100 year anniversary for God Bless America-
by Irving Berlin.
This song was written by
Irving Berlin in 1918 during WW1.

God bless America, land that I love

Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above
From the mountains to the prairies

To the oceans white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home
God bless America, land that I love

Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above
From the mountains to the prairies

To the oceans white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home
From the mountains to the prairies

To the oceans white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home
God bless America, my home sweet home

Berlin revised the song in the run up
to World War II in 1938.
The later version has notably been recorded
 by Kate Smith,
 becoming her signature song.

This July 4th, 2018- 100 years later -
may God continue to bless the USA.
